Giancarlo Aragona

Ambassador Giancarlo Aragona is ISPI Scientific Advisor. He was president of ISPI from 2012 to 2016.

During his career he served as diplomatic advisor to the Italian Ministry of Defense from 1992 to 1994. He was afterwards appointed vice-chief of cabinet at the Italian Foreign Affairs Ministry, a post he held until 1996 when he became Secretary-General of the OECD.

Following his three-year term he was appointed Italian ambassador to Moscow but was recalled to the Foreign Affairs Ministry in 2011 to serve as General Director of Political Affairs. In February 2004 he was posted to London as Italian ambassador and was retired from diplomatic service, due to age limits, in December 2009.

In September 2009 he was tapped by the NATO Secretary-General to join the Group of Experts chaired by former American Secretary of State Madeline Albright and charged with preparing a report on reforming the Atlantic Alliance.
