Stefano M. Torelli


Stefano Maria Torelli, Ph.D, is ISPI Research Fellow. His research topics include Middle Eastern studies, Political Islam and International Relations and he has worked extensively on Turkey and Tunisia. Torelli obtained his Ph.D. in History of the International Relations at the University of Rome “La Sapienza”, with a research project focused on the emergence of the Kurdish question between the 19th and the 20th centuries and the Powers’ politics toward Kurdistan. He is currently Adjunct Professor in History and Institutions of the Middle East at the University IULM in Milan. Torelli has appeared on Italian and international information networks and research institutes (such as Newsweek, El Paìs, Hürriyet, RSI, RAI, Sky, LA7)  as an expert of Islamic and Middle Eastern questions and he has been a columnist for the magazine of the Italian main newspaper Il Corriere della Sera, Sette. He has published several articles and essays on international academic reviews, such as The British Journal of Middle Eastern Studies, Middle East Policy, Insight Turkey, The Jamestown Foundation's Terrorism Monitor and Jadaliyya. Torelli is autohr of "La Tunisia Contemporanea" (Il Mulino, 2015) and co-editor of the book “La Primavera araba. Origini ed effetti delle rivolte che stanno cambiando il Medio Oriente” (Vita e Pensiero,2012). Torelli has been a consultant for the Italian Parliament.
