Over the last years, the myth of a Russian “return” to the MENA region after a prolonged period of quasi-absence has captured increasing attention by policy makers and the scientific community. In particular, since late September 2015, the Russian military intervention in Syria has prompted the rise of expectations and speculations on Moscow’s intentions to impose itself as a central actor able to affect the course of events in the broader Middle East.

The initiative was promoted in the context of the Think20 (T20 Argentina 2018), the network of leading Think Tanks providing research-based policy advice to the G20. As the co-chair of the T20 Task Force "An International Financial Architecture for Stability and Development", ISPI brought together high-level scholars and experts from G20 countries to discuss measures aiming to scale-up cooperation among G20 countries for a more stable and reliable financial system.
In collaboration with the International Crisis Group, the event took place in Brussels on the 17th of November 2017.
