Alessandro Pio is Senior Scientific Advisor at ISPI. Previously, he worked as Resident General Director of the Asian Development Bank's (ADB) North American Representative Office (NARO) in Washington DC. Pio joined ADB in 1993 and became programs economist for Viet Nam, where he was posted from 2000 to 2004, and Country Director in Sri Lanka, where he helped coordinate the aid agencies post-tsunami reconstruction response. Before joining ADB, he was a professor at Bocconi University where he taught macroeconomics and development economics. Alessandro also worked in Latin America with the Economic Commission for Latin America and UNICEF. He holds a BS in Economics and an MA in Community and Regional Planning.
He has authored and edited numerous articles and publications on themes related to economic development and human capital.
