Lia Quartapelle

Senior Advisor Africa

Lia Quartapelle is a Research Fellow of the Africa Programme at ISPI. She lectures the module of Policies for Development Cooperation at the University of Pavia. She is an economist by training and she holds degrees from the Universities of Pavia and Florence. She got a Master of Science in Economics with reference to Africa at the School of Oriental and African Studies in London and a PhD in Development Economics at the University of Pavia with a dissertation on aid and employment in Ghana and Mozambique. In 2007, she worked as an economist for the budget support program of the Italian Cooperation Office in Mozambique. She is also a member of the 'Associazione per gli Studi dell’Africa in Italia' and of the 'African Studies Association of the UK'. She has published reports and articles on aid effectiveness in Africa, Italian development aid strategies and factors affecting economic development in Africa (e.g. “General Budget Support as Conditional Aid. The Case of Mozambique. A Game-theoretic Analysis of the Relationship between Donors and Recipients”, published by VDM Verlag).
