Democracy or meritocracy? China and the new century's political zeitgeist

In collaboration with gLAWcal-Global Law Initiatives for Sustainable Development, the University Institute of European Studies (IUSE) in Turin and the University of Piemonte Orientale in Novara, in the framework of the European Union Research Executive Agency IRSES Project “Liberalism in Between Europe And China” (LIBEAC), Workpackages 2 and 4, coordinated by Aix-Marseille University (CEPERC), ISPI has organized a lecture by Prof. Daniel A. Bell, among the most important scholars on China’s political theory.

The lecture revolved around China's political system and the role of meritocracy, specifically addressing the following issues: Is China developing its own political path? And what can we learn from China’s experiment? If meritocracy will provide political stability and economic success in the next decades, what will be its impact over western democracy and its frustrated expectations?

ISPI International Lectures are open to Graduate Students, Post-Docs, professionals with comparable levels of experience and education, who come together in a highly-stimulating environment to discuss their current research and build informal networks with their peers.
