Global Scenarios - Between Strategic Compass and new technologies: how the defense industry is changing

Debates co-sponsored by ISPI and Arca Fondi Sgr to address issues related to the global economy and politics.

Special Russia-Ukraine.

The European Union has been developing the concept of Strategic Autonomy for some years now, which includes a range of policies aimed at making the EU more internationally assertive and less dependent on third-party partners in critical industrial sectors. The Defense and Security sectors are also part of this approach, within which is the Strategic Compass, aimed at strengthening the EU's military capabilities by 2030. To achieve the goals set forth in the Strategic Compass, it will be crucial to create the basis for a European defense industry that goes beyond purely national economic and security interests. How can member states increase defense spending in a macroeconomic environment that will impose less expansive fiscal policies in the coming years? How can the resources already provided by the European Defense Fund be strengthened to finance the development of a European industry? What is the situation of the European Defense supply chain and how could industrial links between large "national champions" and SMEs in the sector be strengthened? How can technological and industrial development of other sectors - including space - benefit the strategic needs of a defense of our continent?

ISPI has always been careful to ensure in its activities and structure an inclusive environment, attentive to gender diversity and plurality of voices in the implementation of initiatives. When this does not appear reflected in publications or events, it is due to the unavailability of the people consulted or the inability to identify specific profiles in our network.
