The Italian Institute for International Political Studies (ISPI) was founded by Alberto Pirelli and other heads of industry in 1934, and has since studied the dynamics of international affairs with a view to meeting the needs of manufacturers and other producers – including the group’s own members, for whom it organizes special initiatives. The Institute’s Centre for Business Scenarios (Osservatorio Geoeconomia) is a joint initiative with Intesa Sanpaolo and in collaboration with Sace; it coordinates initiatives to encourage the international expansion of Italian industry by means of projects involving institutions, companies and industry associations. The aim is to combine macroeconomic analysis with a strategic understanding of politics, and current commentary with long-term prognostication. Business interests are likewise a primary concern of all ISPI’s other permanent analytical Centres and Programmes, whether categorized by region (Asia, the Mediterranean, Africa south of the Sahara, Russia, the Americas) or by subject (Global Economic Governance, Infrastructure, Cybersecurity, Global Cities and Energy).
