Woman, Life, Freedom: Iran at a Turning Point

Pejman Abdolmohammadi
09 January 2023

Freedom, Democracy and Secularism have been the main demands of Iranian protestors over the last one hundred days since the beginning of the 2022 revolts. The course of events suggests that Iran is at a turning point: the country faces a cultural revolution led mainly by young generations, who are not ideological, and are peacefully seeking democracy and separation of religion from politics. What will be the future of this revolt? How is it affecting Iranian domestic politics and to what extent will it affect regional politics in the Middle East? Who are the Iranian Millenials – the so-called Z Generations – and what are their main demands?

These questions will be addressed in this Dossier focusing on the Iranian revolts of 2022. A dossier in which experts, scholars and journalists together with two young female Iranian graduate students offer their perspective on the subject matter.
