As the latest and worst North Korea crisis in six decades continues to rage, the need to think outside the box grows more urgent. The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) and the global community appear trapped in a vicious circle, like a malign chicken and egg. After 11 years and eight major UN resolutions, this cycle is wearily familiar. North Korea tests a ballistic missile (BM) or a nuclear device.
Last Sunday Chechen police declared having registered 1.1 million people participating in the protest against the “genocide” of Muslims in Myanmar held in the center of Grozny (the capital of the Chechen republic). The number of participants may be overestimated, since the Republic's overall population is 1.3 million people, but the importance of this protest for Russia’s internal stability and international political agenda is hard to overestimate.
Fourteen years have passed since the European Union-Western Balkan summit in Thessaloniki in June 2003 where the process know as the Thessaloniki Agenda was adopted confirming the EU accession perspective for the countries of the region. Il Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (Jcpoa), l’accordo sul nucleare raggiunto a Vienna tra Iran e P5+1 il 14 luglio 2015, ha aperto la strada all’allentamento delle sanzioni che, a partire dal 2006, erano progressivamente state imposte all’Iran per via del suo programma di sviluppo nucleare che la comunità internazionale reputava indirizzato a fini militari.

Algeria has recently been at the center of multiple discussions and speculations. Several analysts believe that the country is about to face the second wave of the so-called “Arab Spring”. The regime would collapse and a civil war would follow. Six years after the Arab uprisings, the Algerian regime showed a remarkable degree of stability and continuity.
The building for conjugal visits on the right, the ceremony hall on the left, and in front of us the massive complex of Hair prisons, few kilometres away from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. "We have nothing to hide, the doors of our prisons are open" is the slogan welcoming visitors at the entrance. In these prisons, the de-radicalization program starts and it continues in the rehabilitation center.
There is no doubt that never before in the still very short history of the ICC has the relationship between the Court, on one side, and the African Union (AU), representing the African states, on the other, been as tense as it has been for some months. I will not speak as a Judge here, otherwise I would have to be very constrained, because I would have to represent the Court’s policy; I want to speak directly from my experience avoiding hypocrisy and diplomacy and I guess that this is probably what is expected of my remarks.
The Egyptian military response through heavy air strikes on the cities of Darnah and Sirte – as a consequence of the kidnapping and beheading of 21 Egyptian Copts by a Libyan cell affiliated to the Islamic State (IS) in February 2015 – represents so far the peak of Egypt’s involvement in the Libyan affaire.
