Jaana is an economist and a partner at the McKinsey Global Institute (MGI), McKinsey's business and economics research arm. Since 2003, she has led MGI’s research on productivity, urbanization, competitiveness, and growth. Her latest research maps the deployment of smart city solutions and sizes the potential benefits to urban citizens’ health, safety, commute times, and other factors affecting quality of life.
Chiara Proietti Silvestri is analyst at the Bologna-based energy consultancy Rie-Ricerche Industriali ed Energetiche, focusing on the economic and political dynamics of the main global energy issues. At ISPI, Chiara is author of the “Energy Security Focus” for the Foreign Policy Observatory of the Parliament and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. She currently works on the energy developments in the Mediterranean area, with particular attention to the EastMed gas discoveries.
Maddalena Procopio is Associate Research Fellow at ISPI for the Africa Programme. She holds a PhD in International Relations from the London School of Economics. She is currently political analyst for sub-Saharan Africa at Eni.
Christos Peristianis is a Ph.D. candidate at the Department of Sociology, University of Essex, funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council. He has a Master's degree from the University of Bologna in Research and Studies in Eastern Europe, with a focus on History and Sociology; a Master 1st Level from La Sapienza University of Rome in International Policies and Crisis Management and a Bachelor's in European Studies from the European University Cyprus.
Her focus areas are US politics and the Middle East, where she has lived for the past five years. An independent analyst and journalist, she produced video footage from Mosul for Italian TV while covering the battle to oust IS in Iraq. She conducted numerous interviews with Al Qaeda and IS jihadists including documentaries on de-radicalization partially filmed inside Beirut's Roumieh prison. She is a regular TV guest commentator on the US and the Middle East for the Italian national channels Mediaset, RAI, Sky etc.
Lorenzo Parola is a partner at Paul Hastings and is one of the most prominent energy lawyers in Italy. Lorenzo is admitted to the Italian Supreme Court and as a Solicitor of England and Wales. Lorenzo has assisted domestic and international corporations and private equity funds in M&A transactions in the energy sector, with a particular focus on renewable enercy, and project finance. June Park is a political economist by training and works on trade, energy, and tech conflicts with a broader range of regional focuses not just on the U.S. and East Asia, but also Europe. She studies economic pressures and conflicts, analyzing different policy outcomes based on governance structures – domestic institutions, leaderships, and bureaucracies that shape the policy formation process.
Dr. Orzala Nemat, an internationally known Afghan scholar & think tank leader. She is an expert in political ethnography, holding a PhD in Development Studies from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) and MSc in Development Planning from the University College London (UCL). Dr. Nemat has firsthand experience in how it is to be a war refugee for fourteen years in Pakistan. However, she chose to rise above the situation by putting the focus on helping women and girls in her community and developing her career.
Paola Morselli is a Research Trainee at ISPI. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Language, Culture and Society of Asia and Mediterranean Africa from Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, with a specific focus on Korea, Japan and Cina, and is currently enrolled in the Master in European and International Studies at the University of Trento. As an exchange student she also spent an academic year at Seoul National University in South Korea.
