Digital Transition. Striking a Balance Between Benefits and Risks

On the one hand, there is a consensus that digital transitions bring great benefits socially and economically and should be distributed more widely and evenly across the globe. On the other hand, there is also a consensus that digital transitions have the potential for great harm and should be subject to agreed global constraints and regulations. To complete a triangulation, it is clear that COVID has reinforced and accelerated both propensities.

The Unending Cycle of Violence and Human Rights Violations in Afghanistan

The August 15th events in Afghanistan caught off guard not only the Afghans but much of the rest of the world. Following intensified negotiations between the Taliban and the US government and Biden’s announcement to withdraw troops by 11th September 2021, many Afghans expected a major shift in the country's political landscape, especially the return of the Taliban in some form. However, no one anticipated what transpired on August 15th, which was largely precipitated by former President Ghani's escape.

A Taiwan, il Guomindang cerca un nuovo inizio

Il partito nazionalista cinese avrà presto un nuovo presidente, ma la strada per il rinnovamento è ancora lunga. Sabato 25 settembre si svolgono le elezioni interne al Guomindang (GMD) per stabilire chi sarà il prossimo leader del partito che fu di Sun Yat-sen prima e di Chiang Kai-shek poi. Dal 2016 forza di opposizione a Taiwan, il GMD è uscito sconfitto alle elezioni del 2020 dopo il successo del voto locale del 2018.
