Carolina de Stefano is an Associate Research Fellow at the Russia, Caucasus and Central Asia Centre at ISPI. She is currently completing her Ph.D. at Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies in Pisa, and she is a visiting researcher at the Higher School of Economics (HSE) in Moscow. She obtained her master’s degree from Luiss University in Rome, with a thesis on the Rule of Law in Russia. She carried out archival research in Moscow in 2015-2016, while being based at HSE, and at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University in July 2016. In 2016-2017, she was a visiting scholar at the Institute for European, Russian and Eurasian Studies (IERES) at George Washington University. She is a regular contributor on Russia for Oxford Analytica and, since 2014, a member of the scientific committee of the Atlante Geopolitico Treccani, where she deals with the former Soviet space. She has published analyses and book chapters on Russia’s regional politics and policies towards the former Soviet Republics. Her latest contributions appeared on the Russian Analytical Digest.
Her main research interests lie with Russian domestic politics and Russia’s policies in the post-Soviet space. She speaks Russian, English and French fluently.
