Expectations were high that this year’s NPT Review Conference and the commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima would offer two opportunities to make steps forward on the path towards nuclear disarmament and non proliferation. Both events were a disappointment. On the other hand the recent agreement on the Iranian nuclear program was a major unprecedented breakthrough. Where is the international community heading and what are the priorities at this stage? What role could the United Nations, the nuclear and the non-nuclear weapons states play? What are the implications for Europe and for the Middle East?
The event, organized in cooperation with Centro Studi Americani, has been introduced and moderated by Ambassador Giancarlo ARAGONA, President of the Italian Institute for International Political Studies (ISPI)
The lecture has been held at Centro Studi Americani (Via Michelangelo Caetani, 32 - Rome) and the discussion has been held in English.
