The election in Ethiopia that will take place on Sunday the 23rd of May 2010 will mark an important step in the country. In fact, the previous elections, in 2005, can be considered the first ones that have challenged the ruling party, the Ethiopian People’s Revolutionary Democratic Front, grip on power. The 2005 elections turned out ugly: the opposition, framed in a credible way for the first time, suffered a violent repression that has weakened its present ability to perform its core task.
The Analysis tried to understand who the present internal situation, where the issue of federalism is still an hot topic, and the regional and international context might have influence on the long-term outcome of the vote.
