The upcoming Iraqi parliamentary election will take place on May 12. It is the fourth election after the overthrow of Saddam Hussein’s regime, and the first one after the defeat of the Islamic State. In spite of the crises that have been ravaging the country over the last decade and ongoing regional turmoil, Iraq is trying to get back on its feet. But many challenges still lie ahead. Indeed, the outcome of this vote might be crucial for the socio-political stabilization of Iraq, and could lay the ground for economic recovery and post-war reconstruction. Will the next Iraqi leadership be able to learn from the past and overcome cleavages in order to rebuild an all-inclusive national dialogue? What future for Iraq?
