RAstaNEWS, edited by ISPI
The 3-year EU-wide RAstaNEWS project is based upon the premise that rethinking the future of macroeconomic and monetary integration in Europe requires a substantial revision and integration of underlying macroeconomic models, and a new vision about what markets and policymakers can accomplish. In a nutshell, since its inception the project has aimed at providing different but interrelated policy outputs to EU and Eurozone policymakers:
- - Proposals to reform Economic and Monetary Union (EMU) macroeconomic policies in a way that would contribute to decrease the likelihood of the occurrence of future crises;
- - Proposals to reform EMU macro-prudential policies, improving the functioning of the Banking Union as a way to enhance convergence of economic conditions and a smoothening of the business cycle;
- - Proposals to define and incorporate in the design of EMU macroeconomic surveillance policies a refined set of ex ante indicators of impending macroeconomic and financial imbalances.
This Green Book collects policy recommendations resulting from RAstaNEWS partners’ work. Some of the policy recommendations were straightforward from the empirical results, while others required more thinking and debating before we could settle on specific, viable and direct implications for the design of EMU policies and institutions.
