The International Criminal Court Pretrial Chamber has issued an arrest warrant against Sudanese president Omar Al Bashir for crimes against humanity and war crimes, on the request of prosecutor Ocampo. The Sudanese government has reacted defiantly to the measure, considering it to be a serious attack on national sovereignty. It is therefore impossible that Sudan will cooperate with the Court for the execution of this arrest warrant and two others against Harun and Ali Kushayb. There are widespread fears that the adopted measure will further obstruct the formidable peace process in the region. Peace and justice do indeed appear to be two incompatible goals in Darfur.
