Reviving Diplomacy: A New Strategy for the Conflict in Yemen

The fundamental challenge in achieving a sustainable resolution of the current conflict in Yemen is that the issues at stake are fundamental to Yemen’s identity and history. In fact, it reflects the core issues that have undermined peace and security in the country since at least the 1960s when a successful revolution in North Yemen ended the millennium-old imamate and a quasi-Marxist revolt in the south ended Britain’s protectorate.

How the Ukraine War Could Disrupt Climate Policies in the MENA Region

The Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region is one of the world’s most vulnerable to the impacts of climate change. Over the past three decades, temperatures in the region have risen by 1.5°C, twice the global increase of 0.7°C, and climate models estimate a continuous rise in temperature over the region towards the end of the century.

Biden's Presidency and the 2022 Midterm Elections: An Overview

On November 8, Americans will be called to vote for a variety of federal, State, and local offices. Like every two years, the entire House of Representatives and 1/3 of the Senate (34 senators + 1 special vote in Oklahoma) will be up for election. At the State level, 88 of 99 legislative chambers – Nebraska having the only unicameral system – will hold elections, and 36 gubernatorial seats will also be on the ballot (there were only 11 in 2020).

Assessing Russian Use of Iranian Drones in Ukraine: Facts and Implications

It’s been just over a month since the first Iranian-made Shahed-136 drone (rebranded in Russian colours as the “Geran-2”) was intercepted by Ukrainian forces near Kupians, in the Kharkiv Oblast. This episode marked the first evidence of Russia’s rumoured wide-scale deployment of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV’s, or “drones”), manufactured and supplied by Iran (still officially denied by Tehran) for its military effort in Ukraine.
