L’ambasciatore Massolo, diplomatico di carriera, ha svolto funzioni di direttore generale del Dipartimento delle Informazioni per la Sicurezza presso la Presidenza del Consiglio (2012-2016), di sherpa del Presidente del Consiglio dei Ministri per i Vertici G8 e G20 (2008-2009), di segretario generale del Ministero degli Affari Esteri (2007-2012).
