Alvin Y.H. Cheung is a J.S.D. Candidate at New York University School of Law and a Non-Resident Affiliated Scholar at NYU’s U.S.-Asia Law Institute. His doctoral project, “Abusive Legalism,” addresses the systematic abuse of sub-constitutional legal norms and institutions by authoritarian regimes. He holds degrees from NYU (LL.M. in International Legal Studies, 2014) and Cambridge (M.A. 2011), and has worked in Hong Kong as a barrister and as a lecturer in Law & Public Affairs at Hong Kong Baptist University.
Chiara Cervasio is a Doctoral Researcher at the Institute for Conflict, Cooperation and Security (ICCS), the University of Birmingham and a Nuclear Policy Analyst at the British American Security Information Council (BASIC).
Chiara has a background in Political Science, International Relations, and International Security. Before completing her BSc in 2014 at the University of Pisa, she has worked as an intern at the European University Institute, Fiesole (FI). She then obtained her MSc in 2017 from the University of Bologna, specialising in Politics of Contemporary Asia.

Chiara A. Cascino was Research Assistant at the ISPI's MENA Center. She holds a BA in Modern Languages (English, Spanish and Arabic) from the University of Palermo and a MA in Arab and Islamic Studies from the University of Naples “L’Orientale”. She is also concluding a Master’s Degree in Economics and Institutions of Islamic Countries at the School of Government of the LUISS University, Rome. Her research interests focus on the history, institutions and society of Middle East and North Africa and the trends of contemporary Islam.
Paolo Calzini is a Scientific Advisor at ISPI. He works as research fellow at Bundesinstitut für Ostwissenschaftliche und Internationale Studien and has been visiting professor at the University of Milan, the Moscow State Institute of International Relations, SAIS Washington, the University of Bologna and the Istituto Universitario Orientale.
