Con questa undicesima edizione l'annuario dello Iai e dell'Ispi cambia titolo, con l'obiettivo di concentrare le analisi e i commenti quasi esclusivamente sul ruolo del nostro Paese in un mondo che cambia. Il volume prende in esame gli avvenimenti dell'anno 2009 ed ha una nuova struttura: un ampio capitolo introduttivo, corredato da una serie di grafici e tabelle analitiche, offre un quadro complessivo degli interessi, priorità e principali iniziative dell'Italia in campo internazionale.

Le elezioni politiche nel Regno Unito arrivano in un momento critico per le sorti della nazione. Per tre ordini di motivi si profilano come le più importanti dal 1979. A detta di molti commentatori sarebbero elezioni “da dover perdere”, il vincitore infatti, davanti alle difficoltà che egli stesso riceverà in eredità, potrebbe finire addirittura con l’invidiare chi è stato battuto.

This paper analyzes the main tasks to be addressed by the Russian leadership as the country experiences the rising costs of economic uncertainty exacerbated by the global financial crisis. The last decade has undoubtedly been characterized by restored statehood, political and social stability, and a powerful energy sector which has allowed Moscow to play a confident role in the international arena. As the prices of oil, gas and other extractable commodities have increased, so has Russia’s economic strength.

The “reset” of Russo-US relations offered by Washington a year ago has been valued positively. However, it did not present a long-term strategy for bilateral relationship and turned out to be a selective approach so far. From a Russian perspective, it does not address Moscow’s major interests and concerns that have arisen after the end of the Cold War. Its first “component” – the new START pact – has a positive meaning, but it has little impact on the “reset” of bilateral military affairs.

Negli ultimi decenni si è assistito a un ritorno del fenomeno religioso nelle relazioni internazionali. Non solo il prospettato declino della religione come conseguenza della modernizzazione e dei processi di secolarizzazione non si è verificato, ma la religione è diventata un fattore di mobilitazione nei paesi in via di sviluppo e di influenza politica nei paesi industrializzati.
