Olesya Vartanyan

Olesya Vartanyan has worked on conflicts in the South Caucasus for almost 15 years. She has been with International Crisis Group since 2016, researching and producing reports on regional security issues in Armenia, Georgia and Azerbaijan, with a particular focus on breakaway regions in the South Caucasus – Abkhazia, Nagorno-Karabakh and South Ossetia.

Francesco Valacchi

Francesco Valacchi graduated in Strategic Sciences in Turin (2004) and International Studies in Pisa (2013). He then obtained a PhD in Political Science with a specialization in Geopolitics always in Pisa in 2018. He deals with geopolitics, geoeconomics and International Political Economy with particular regard to the Asian area (Especially Southern Asia and ASEAN). He is deeply interested in the connection between social structures and International Political Economics (IPE), near to some models of IPE English School.

Lucia Tajoli

Lucia Tajoli is Full Professor of Economic Policy at the Department of Management Engineering of the Politecnico di Milano. Previously she was a Lecturer at Bocconi University and then an Associate Professor at the Polytechnic University of Milan. She received her degree in Political Economy in 1988 and a PhD in Economics from Bocconi University in 1994.

Michele Sorice

Michele Sorice is a Full Professor at Luiss University, Rome, where he teaches Democratic Innovation and Political Sociology. At Luiss University, Michele is also director of the Centre for Conflict and Participation Studies (CCPS), member of the Scientific Committee of the international PhD in Political Theory and Political Sociology and of the Scientific Board of the School of Government. Member of several national and international scientific societies, Michele has been Honorary Professor at University of Stirling, Scotland, UK.

Thomas Ruttig has a degree in Afghan Studies from Humboldt University, Berlin; he also studied at Kabul University, and speaks both Pashto and Dari fluently. Since 1983, he has spent more than ten years working in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Barnett R. Rubin

Barnett R. Rubin is a non-resident fellow at Center on International Cooperation, New York University, and the Quincy Institute for Responsible Statecraft. He has served as senior advisor to the UN Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Afghanistan and the U.S. Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan. His most recent book is “Afghanistan: What Everyone Needs to Know” (Oxford, 2020).

Orzala Nemat

Dr. Orzala Nemat, an internationally known Afghan scholar & think tank leader. She is an expert in political ethnography, holding a PhD in Development Studies from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) and MSc in Development Planning from the University College London (UCL). Dr. Nemat has firsthand experience in how it is to be a war refugee for fourteen years in Pakistan. However, she chose to rise above the situation by putting the focus on helping women and girls in her community and developing her career.
