Cultural Pluralism, Social Justice and the Idea of a European Commonwealth

The existence of different groups with their own claims to political autonomy has been a challenge for many states and some have been more successful than others in recognizing the claims of competing groups. L’evoluzione delle strategie russe nel Caucaso (1991-2006)

La dissoluzione dell’Urss, avvenuta alla fine del 1991, ha avuto conseguenze particolarmente notevoli in una regione complessa e tormentata come quella caucasica. Il risultato più significativo è stato l’indipendenza di Georgia, Armenia e Azerbaigian, che in epoca sovietica avevano lo status di repubbliche federate.

Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaigian: una chance europea?

La nomina, nel luglio del 2003, di un Rappresentante Speciale dell’Unione Europea per il Caucaso meridionale, ha ufficialmente sancito l’accresciuto interesse di Bruxelles per questa regione. Si tratta in effetti di un passo persino tardivo se teniamo presente la prossimità geografica del Caucaso al nostro continente e la sua notevole rilevanza strategica ed economica, peraltro gravemente segnata da conflitti interni e rivalità geopolitiche esterne.
