Andrea de Georgio

Andrea De Georgio is an Associate Research Fellow at ISPI. He is a freelance journalist based in Mali and covers the main countries of Western Africa. He contributed to several Italian and foreign newspapers and magazines, including il Corriere della Sera, La Stampa, Limes, CNN. De Gregorio also works with RaiNews24, Radio 24 and Radio Popolare. In 2011, he undertook a postgraduate degree in Sciences of Languages, History and Cultures of Mediterranean and Islamic Countries at the University of Naples and in 2012 he won the journalism international award “Maria Grazia Cutuli”.

Jean-Pierre Darnis

Jean-Pierre Darnis è consigliere scientifico dello IAI e professore associato all’Università di Nizza Sophia-Antipolis, dove dirige il master in “Lingue e Relazioni Internazionali, Relazioni franco-italiane”. È responsabile del nuovo programma IAI “Tech-Rel” (Tecnologia & Relazioni internazionali), che analizza le sfide di policy delle nuove tecnologie e il loro impatto sulla società globale. Allo IAI ha anche sviluppato una serie di progetti di ricerca sulle relazioni franco-italiane.

Mattia Corbetta

Mattia Corbetta is a Policy Analyst at the OECD Trento Centre for Local Development. Between 2012 and 2019 he worked as a Policy Adviser at the Italian Ministry of Economic Development, where he contributed to designing the Italian Startup Act, the National Plan on Industry 4.0 and other policies on digital and inclusive entrepreneurship. In the past, he worked at the Italian Chambers of Commerce in Switzerland and Morocco, at the Italian Embassy in Syria and at the UN Volunteers program in Germany.

Giovanni Carbone (PhD, London School of Economics) is Head of the ISPI Africa Programme and Professor of Political Science at the Università degli Studi di Milano. His research focus is the comparative study of politics, geopolitics and economic development in sub-Saharan Africa, with particular regard to political institutions.

Kerry Brown

Kerry Brown is Professor of Chinese Studies and Director of the Lau China Institute at King's College, London. From 2012 to 2015 he was Professor of Chinese Politics and Director of the China Studies Centre at the University of Sydney, Australia. Prior to this, he worked at Chatham House from 2006 to 2012, as Senior Fellow and then Head of the Asia Programme.

Davide Borsani
Davide Borsani is an Associate Research Fellow at ISPI and Post-Ph.D. Research Fellow at the Catholic University of Milan, where he is currently researching on the Atlantic community in contemporary history. He completed his Ph.D. in Institutions and Politics at the Catholic University in 2015, where he is also a Teaching Assistant for the courses "History of International Relations and Institutions", "History of Treaties and International Politics" and "History of Political Relations between North America and Europe".

Wael Almazeedi

Besides being Co-founder of the FATE Consortium, a collaborative energy technology platform, Wael Almazeedi is Scientific Advisor to the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences and a Member of Kuwait’s National Hydrogen Committee. He has over 25 years of industry experience in energy and infrastructure acquired while working for Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (1984-1990); the World Bank Group (1993-97); BTU Ventures (1999-2011), an infrastructure private equity firm; and since 2012, FATE Consortium.

Political Accountability in Kenya: Clean Leadership Is Key

Despite some improvement over the past decade, corruption in Kenya remains rampant: Kenya is ranked 128 among 180 nations in 2021 in terms of perceived corruption, after climbing from position 124 in 2020. Democratic elections are also meant to help keep malpractice and fraud under check. Regrettably, a number of those seeking elective seats in the coming elections have tainted integrity.
