Aldo Ferrari (PhD) is Head of the Russia, Caucasus and Central Asia Program at the Institute for International Political Studies (ISPI) in Milan. He is Professor of Armenian Culture, History of the Caucasus and Central Asia, and History of the Russian Culture at Ca’ Foscari University in Venice, where he is also Director of the ELEO Master’s Degree in Languages and Economies of Eastern Europe. She holds a BA in Modern Languages (English, Spanish and Arabic) from the University of Palermo and a MA in Arab and Islamic Studies from the University of Naples “L’Orientale”. She is also concluding a Master’s Degree in Economics and Institutions of Islamic Countries at the School of Government of the LUISS University, Rome. Her research interests focus on the history, institutions and society of Middle East and North Africa and the trends of contemporary Islam.

Giovanni Carbone (PhD, London School of Economics) is Head of the ISPI Africa Programme and Professor of Political Science at the Università degli Studi di Milano. His research focus is the comparative study of politics, geopolitics and economic development in sub-Saharan Africa, with particular regard to political institutions.
